All grit, no quit.
If life has an easy way and a hard way to do something, it has always given me the latter option. Never seeming to find the easy way of things has helped me build the qualities of a Titan and live the Ethos daily.
I stumbled across Titan 6 Actual during one of the most challenging times of my life navigating tragedy and trauma. The I am the Storm and Titan Ethos caught my attention at DEKA Fit in Philly as I was trying to navigate my own journey and healing. Ironically, the storm design lit a fire in my soul and the Titan Ethos of “Growth, Purpose and Leadership” brought back to my life my desire to grow, inspire and do more. In that moment I knew I wanted to be a part of this brand. In that moment a dream, a plan and a journey beyond the imagination came to life. I knew rucking was the vehicle to do it, because the weight I was carrying mentally, emotionally and physically was more than any back pack could hold.
I discovered that I was to use my challenges to inspire help others face adversity and hardship and take command of their lives to find the best version of themselves.
I approached Lou, the founder, and told him my vision, my story and my goals. I told him I would be back this same time next year to complete my ruck fit and eventually “Ruckfecta.” ( Ruckfecta is a term I coined and used with DEKA Co-founder Yancy Culp to describe the Ruck division trifecta, consisting of Ruck Strong, Mile and Fit) I told Lou that I would love him to follow my journey. In that conversation, I received the affirmation that our goals and values were aligned and started my mission. In that conversation, I received validation that my size didn’t matter, and neither did the fact that I was not a podium contender or an elite athlete, but I could have a reach in a completely different and awesome way.
A year later not only did I complete my Ruckfecta (and the first Canadian female to do so), but beyond my wildest dreams I completed a DEKA Ultra (5 back to back DEKA Fit races), all while battling compartment syndrome. My dream to show others that success comes to people of all shapes, colours, sizes and abilities that sport is more than just about a podium or medal was achieved.
I challenge you to take command of your own journey. Dig deep, explore opportunities around you to find your passion and then serve from these places. Use the parts of your personality and strength to help others overcome the odds and inspire through being your authentic self. Embrace your inner Titan or Titaness.
